ALLENDALE, Mich. — Bright lights, loud music, high stakes.
While the temperatures may be cold outside, students at Grand Valley State University are hoping to heat things up–Vegas style.
With “mocktail” waitresses and casino decorations inside student meeting rooms, the event was a fundraiser to raise money for organizations who do work in the Grand Rapids area.
According to event co-planner Josh Plona, the event was months in the making.
“We starting planning this in the middle of October. Especially the last couple of weeks has been crunch time, our committees have met every single week since the beginning of November,” Plona said.
Jessy Oprea, who also helped to organize the event, hopes that months of planning have worked out.
“This past week has been so stressful, but I think it all worked out,” Oprea said.
Plona said that based on the turnout, they would like to make the night an annual event.
The inaugural Casino Night was to benefit the Phi Sigma Sigma foundation, as well as Mel Trotter Ministries.
Organizers were expecting upwards to about a thousand dollars, but said they will be happy with however much money is donated.
